"Cutting-edge house and techno always present" The Wire
Although Finnish grandeé of Minimalism Mika Vainio has retired live outings of the cult classic Pan Sonic for the foreseeable future, he continues to play solo. Bleep 43 are very excited about witnessing his primeval explorations of analogue-generated electronic sounds.
Without doubt one of the more visceral and thought-provoking artists in European music, Vainio’s pedigree is vast – he’s one of the true pioneers of minimal techno, evinced by his Sakho label and a prolific multitude of other projects.
Put that together with Pan Sonic and his sizeable back catalogue of abstract sound works, and you have an idea of just how influential Mika has been to cerebral electronic music.
Joining him in Room 1 is Donato Dozzy, who’ll be laying-down another epic journey of hypnotic techno. Bleep 43’s promoters were enthralled by his stately ability to brew infectious atmospheres when he made his UK debut last year, so it was only a matter of time before he graced the decks again.
20 years of DJing has enabled Donato to call upon a weighty collection of abstract and obscure techno records, most of which you’ve probably never heard. Have no doubt that alongside Surgeon he’s the best techno DJ in the world right now.
Flying over from Detroit for a rare visit to the UK is Terrence Parker. A veteran turntablist in the Motor City, Terrence mixes house in a unique style, and he’ll undoubtedly set Room 2 alight. Despite hailing from and being immersed in the Detroit’s musical heritage, his gospel- influenced deep house owes as much to New York and Chicago as to the bastion of techno that he calls home.
Terrence Parker has played in more than 150 cities throughout the world. Since 1988, he has released more than 100 tracks, and had several top 20 hits across Europe.
As well as a slew of classic originals, Terrence has remixed the likes of Kelly Rowland, Tony Allen, Kanye West, Christina Aguilera, Ce Ce Winans, Genuwine and Amerie. His DJ talents can be heard regularly on the hugely popular Detroit FM show The Pulse.
Making his Bleep43 debut alongside Terrence is DJ Guy, who has built up a strong following as Europe’s finest booty DJ. Formerly one-half of the Non-Stop DJs, Guy runs his own Global Fire label, and his style encompasses electro, house, disco and funk.
Supporting them is Tristan Watkins AKA Phonopsia, who returns to Bleep43 after a 2 year absence. Residents Toby Frith and Dan Bean complete the top- notch line-up.
Bleep43 Ethos:
Bleep43 was founded in 2000 by Toby and Emile with the intention of providing information on electronic music via the internet, and with the birth of our parties in 2002, promoting local DJs and live acts in the London area.
Bleep43 believe in keeping the spirit of underground dance music alive, and provide their carefully selected guests the chance to express themselves to a knowledgeable and appreciative audience, away from the commercial environment of the bigger clubs.
Bleep43 firmly believe in live music, and always try to have a number of artists playing their own material.
In September 2002 they embarked upon a series of nights called Slices at legendary former toilet-cum-bar Public Life in the heart of Shoreditch. From thereon, the aim has been to cover a wide spectrum of genres to their audience, from house and techno to electro, disco and dub, and also to foster the talents of local DJs and live acts in the London area.
The move to Corsica Studios in 2006 enabled them to take advantage of a 2 room venue, but with a capacity that enables them to maintain the intimate vibe. They also firmly believe in giving DJs a longer time frame to play – it’s not uncommon for their DJs to play for 4 hours plus.
The venue’s location and aesthetic means that it remains in relative isolation compared to the epicentre of London’s nightlife, yet the upside is that the crowd is composed solely of people wanting to hear the guests. Recently they’ve attracted crowds from Germany, Ireland, Greece and Italy.
